The following information has been taken from the NMC website. The link is https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/
Please visit their website for more information. You will also need to go this website and setup an online account from where you can start the registration process
This involves completing a recognised nursing diploma/degree and holding a valid registration and PIN number. Check your country’s nursing regulator to see which institutions are recognised
You need ONE of the above. This qualification needs to be maximum 2 years old from you applying for NMC registration. Most nurses who do not have English as a first language find this part the hardest. Please ensure you give yourself plenty of time to study and achieve the grade required. Level 7/ Level B is a high standard of English and requires commitment and dedication to achieve. If you have ever had any other name you will need proof of you name change (for example change of name certificate)
This to to check any criminal record. You will need a police certificate for every country you have lived in for more than 12 months in the last 10 years. The NMC will request this directly from the local police
The NMC will ask for this directly from a qualified doctor who you put down in your form.
For example, your regulator has cancelled or suspended your registration in the past because you committed a crime or was found guilty of malpractice. In the UK, this is called “fitness to practice is impaired”
The NMC need you to have insurance to cover should you be sued whilst working. However this is normally provided by your job once you start working as a nurse so don’t worry if you don’t have this just yet
Once you have all these, you can start to apply to the NMC via https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/register-nurse-midwife/trained-outside-uk/how-to-guide/eligibility-and-qualification-application/begin/
Once all your documents have been approved by the NMC, you then have to show that you have the knowledge, skills and behaviours to be registered as a Nurse. If you trained outside the EU, then you have to sit the NMC Test of Competence (TOC) to prove that you can work safely as a nurse. There are separate TOC exams depending on what field of nursing and midwifery you wish to register as. The Test of Competence is made up of two parts:
Want some help with the OSCE’s? There’s some great youtube videos demonstrating how to pass each skill. Below is one example which we think is quite good but there are loads more. Find one that works for you!

You have one year from the date you did your CBT to do your OSCE. If you fail any part of the exams you get two more attempts. If you fail on the third attempt, you will have to start all over again from the very beginning and make a new NMC application.
Important - You’re probably thinking. How am I going to go to the UK to sit the OSCE? Well, here you have a few options.
As you can imagine, pre-registration schemes are very popular and can save you a lot of money (initially) and make the process easier. We have done all the hard work for you and searched for pre-registration schemes that you can apply too. Click on the link below!
