Read on to find how you do it!
Of course, before you can apply for any jobs, you need to be registered with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council. If you haven’t don’t so already, go to the “register with the NMC” section above to see how to do that first. Also check if your country is on the red list. If it is not you can apply through recruitment agencies as well, we’ve given a list of agencies under the ”become a nurse in the UK” page that you can contact first.
In the UK, almost all nursing jobs are advertised online. As we mentioned previously, nursing jobs fall into 3 broad categories:
This is by far the biggest employer of nurses (and all healthcare jobs) in the UK. The good news is that pretty much all NHS jobs can be found on two sites, www.jobs.nhs.uk/ and https://jobs.scot.nhs.uk (for jobs in Scotland). This means you just have to fill out just ONE online form for each site and then apply for as many NHS jobs as you like, you just have to tailor the personal statement for the particular job you are applying for. You simply create a profile online by applying for a particular job. The website then saves that profile which you can then use for other jobs. There is no limit to the number of roles you can apply for. Click on the button below to go directly to the NHS jobs website
We also suggest you check out recruitment agencies which both NHS and private organisations advertise on. The two main ones are:
These are mainly in academia and medical research. Unless you are an experienced nurse or are currently working in these sectors we would advise you focus on NHS and private hospitals first instead as research and academia are more niche areas which might require specialist expertise. However, if you are interested, most academia, including university jobs are listed on
Other specialist recruiters include (this list will be regularly updated):
Pharmaceutical companies:
Medical equipment:
Clinical trials:
